Jim completed his study Naval Architecture (BSc) at the Polytechnics in Dordrecht, The Netherlands, in 1979

Work experience​

1979-1986 Surveyor/valuator at Van Duyvendijk & Zn. BV, Sworn marine surveyors and valuators
1986-1999 Co-owner Van Duyvendijk & Zn. BV as well as of Expertisebureau Doorn BV
1986 Sworn as marine and mechanical engineer and valuator
1992 Registered as Register Expert (Register of surveyors)
2000-2008 Owner Boot Expertises – Willemstad
2000 Registered as Qualified Yacht Surveyor NVEP
2004 Registered as Register Taxateur (Register of valuators)
2008 – 2016 Owner Waterman Marine Consultancy – Italy
2016 Owner WMCSuperyachts (Continuation of WMC-Italy in The Netherlands)

Additional information

The last 40 years Jim has been appointed as a member of the board of several institutes such as secretary if the N.V.E.P. (Dutch society of pleasure craft engineers), secretary of the Rotterdam branch and later member of the board of the KNVTS (The royal institute of Dutch marine engineers) and vice president of VRT (register of valuators)
 
The first 20 years of his career he mainly worked in the field of vessels dedicated for the inland waterways and seagoing vessels up to abt. 5000GT. The scope of work included valuation, surveying, preparation of strength calculations and technical drawings, supervision on new buildings and structural modifications etc.
 
As from 1988 up until now he has been appointed many times as expert witness by the Dutch Courts, lawyers or served as an arbitrator.
 
In 2000 the choice has been made to focus mainly on the market of (mega) yachts in order to work as arbitrator, expert witness, project manager, owner’s representative etc.
